With the theme of “From Evidence to Action: Confronting Reality”, PHAM 2024 will acknowledge and internalize the fact that its roots in academia now position it well to be transformative, and that to rise to this challenge, planetary health must become transdisciplinary and grounded on partnerships and collaboration with other health-based solutions movements, such as One Health and Environmental Health, and fully joined up with and engaged in regional and global processes, especially those being managed by regional and sub-regional organizations, and the United Nations such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and successor arrangements, summits called by the Secretary-General, such as the 2024 Summit for the Future, and work led by the UN’s Resident Coordinators at country level.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation options are available to Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2). Book a hotel car pick-up or opt for taxi service at the airport. It’s a 35-minute journey and fares vary during non-peak and peak hours.

BY BUS

Express bus services are available in both KLIA, KLIA 2 and SZB airports, offering affordable transits to various locations, even for interstate destinations. Counters are easily found at both KLIA, KLIA 2 and SZB airports, and it's a good option if you're looking to transit to further destinations. Otherwise, if you'd like to reach the hotel by bus, it'll be more convenient to take the bus to KL Sentral, then switch to a connecting KTM Komuter train line and switch to a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Sunway Line (Sunway Lagoon Stop).

BY TAXI

Taxis are readily available throughout the city, and can be hailed on the streets or at taxi counters in shopping malls or famous landmarks. If you'd like to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel, simply purchase your tickets at the taxi counters and hop into one as directed. Fares are either charged according to distance using the metre or a pre-calculated cost will be determined based on your intended destination.

BY TRAIN

The quickest way to get to the hotel by train is to hop onto the KLIA Express train service which leads to KL Sentral. From there, hop onto the KTM Komuter train line to Setia Jaya Station, then change over to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Sunway Line (Sunway Lagoon Stop). Our hotel is directly connected to the mall. If you'd like to explore the city centre, you can simply head back to KL Sentral, with its variety of interchange options able to take you wherever you need to go.

The currency in Malaysia is the Malaysian ringgit. Each ringgit is divided into 100 sen.

When you’re buying currency for Malaysia, look out for the currency code MYR. And once you’re in Malaysia, you’ll see the symbol RM used to show prices.

You’ll find Malaysian banknotes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 40 and 100

Sen come in coins of 5, 10, 20 and 50.

Plugs

In Malaysia, the standard power plug and socket type is the Type G plug - of British origin. Type G plugs have three rectangular prongs in a triangular formation and are rated for 13 amps. They are commonly used in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, and Singapore, but also in quite a few other countries. No other plug types fit into an outlet of type G.

The standard voltage in Malaysia is 230 V, and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

If your devices have a different plug type, you may need a plug adapter to use them in Malaysia. Additionally, some electronic devices may be dual voltage and compatible with both 110-120V and 220-240V, so you may not need a voltage converter if your device falls into this category. Always check the voltage requirements of your specific devices to ensure they are compatible with the Malaysian electrical system.

✈️ If you are traveling from North or Central America to Malaysia

You should primarily be concerned about the voltage difference, which is substantial. You may need a voltage converter or transformer for your devices. However, for most electronic gadgets and chargers, the frequency difference should not pose a problem. Always check the voltage requirements on your devices and consider using appropriate voltage converters or adapters to ensure safe and proper operation while in Malaysia.

✈️ If you are from the rest of the world (excluding some areas in the Philippines, Peru, South Korea, and Brazil)

If you are from the majority of countries in the world that use a voltage in the 220-240 volt range and a 50 Hz frequency, you should be able to use your electrical devices in Malaysia without any issues related to voltage and frequency compatibility. However, it's always a good idea to check the voltage requirements of your specific devices and consider using plug adapters if your country uses a different plug type than Malaysia's Type G plug.

Tips to travel to Malaysia

Check Voltage Compatibility: Before you travel, check the voltage requirements of your electrical devices. If your devices are rated for 220-240 volts, they should work in Malaysia without the need for a voltage converter. Most modern electronic devices (laptops, smartphones, cameras, etc.) are dual voltage and can handle both 110-120V and 220-240V.

Use Plug Adapters: Malaysia uses Type G power plugs with three rectangular prongs. If your home country uses a different plug type, you'll need a plug adapter to fit your devices into Malaysian outlets. These adapters are widely available and inexpensive.

Consider Voltage Converters: If you have devices that are not compatible with Malaysia's voltage (e.g., rated only for 110-120V), you may need a voltage converter or transformer to step up the voltage. Be sure to select a converter that can handle the wattage of your devices.

Pack Multi-Plug Power Strips: If you have multiple devices to charge, consider bringing a multi-plug power strip with one Type G plug. This allows you to charge several devices simultaneously using a single plug adapter.

Buy Locally: For small electrical items like hairdryers or travel irons, consider buying them locally in Malaysia or borrowing them from your accommodation. This eliminates the need for voltage converters or bringing your own devices.

Travel Adapters with USB Ports: Another option is to use a travel adapter with built-in USB ports. This can be a convenient way to charge your USB-powered devices without needing separate adapters.

Check Your Electronics' Compatibility: Always check the user manuals or labels on your electronics for voltage and frequency compatibility information. Many devices have this information printed on them.
